What is the application of Industrial Engineering in sweater factory?

IE concepts are used in sweater factory to fulfill the below intent.

• Develop processes and method of working to increase the factory's overall performance.
• Monitoring production floor and taking better control of production floor

Overall application of IE can be explained better by describing common tasks . Common tasks of an IE department are as follows but not limited to these

• Work measurement of Knitting, linking, finishing & packing.
• Setting standard time for all operations including manual work.
• Style analysis and conducting product development (PD) of the styles 
• Improving method of work and set standard workstation 
• Work with planning to factory capacity determine factory capacity.
• Develop & use maximum work aids.
• Plan machine layout & execute on the floor.
• Performance measuring of workers 
• Training of workers (Specially Linking, Iron operators)
• Labor cost estimation
• Designing incentive scheme and calculating incentive for maximum production & efficiency.
• Setting line production target of the sewing lines and chasing production from line supervisors and operators hourly.
• Solve bottle neck for smooth production & good housekeeping.

How Industrial Engineering Concepts are used by Sweater factories?

IE are utilized in the following ways but not limited to those -

• Prepared machines, equipment & manpower budget.
• Assist line supervisors for line setting and line balancing. 
• Work with Planning & production team to set proper target plan. 
• Help HR department by providing operator performance level to recruit & reward.
• Prepare Efficiency, DFR, NPT & Performance reports and show management team on daily basis.
• set up sop for new tasks & the new process as well.

If there is limited IE team member then only involves for routine jobs like making operation bulletin, line layout, thread consumption etc.

Conclusion:

IE department is adding a lot of values to the company. Without having the Industrial Engineering team one would not know how things are going on the shop floor, what corrective measures need to take on time, effective utilization of manpower and machines.
