What is Cycle Time, Basic Time & SMV?
Start journey to learn IE from right now....
Today we learn what is Cycle Time, Basic Time, Standard Time as well as SMV.
Cycle Time:
How much times take to complete an operation from the starting point of a pcs to the starting point of the next pcs is called cycle time.
For Example: In a particular operation, From pick the first pcs to stitch to pick the second pcs is called Cycle time. We can call this time as Observed time also. Bundle/Material handling time will add with actual cycle time.
So Cycle time = Observed time + Bundle/Material handling time
Using tools: Stopwatch, Study Sheet, Pen, Clipboard to record cycle time.
Basic Time:
Multiply Rating Factor to the cycle/observed time is called Basic Time.
Basic Time = (Observed time*Performance rating)/100
No allowance will be consider to calculate basic time.
Another ways we can calculate basic time like below:
Basic Time = Standard time - Allowance
SMV:
Standard minute value is the full form of SMV.
SMV is the standard time allowed to an operator to complete an operation/task with the specified condition with the specific Rating. To calculate SMV for a task, some additional allowance added with the basic time. Operators must need time/allowance to meet the total plan target of the day because no one can work continuously without taking any rest. Various kinds of allowances are there like relaxation, machine breakdown, power failure, conduct meeting/training by HR etc.
SMV = Basic time +(Basic Time* Allowance)
Key note:
To calculate accurate standard time, we need actual observe time. To get accurate observe time a practitioner need to study more & more. By the study again & again, you can measure Rating Factors also accurately & get better understand about it.
