 Method Study.

Method study is a technique to make a process in higher productive. It is essentially used to find best ways of doing work. The main technique of Method Study is eliminating unnecessary motion / movement and substituting best methods against old one to improve the productivity.

Objectives of Method Study:

Consistently 8 steps for method study is as following:

Select:

Select the operation create bottlenecks & affecting to the productivity for improvement. Simplify the process by process flow chart.

Record:

Record all of the facts regarding the operation (Process Flow Chart). Record current reading of that process. Check & record each & every motion to justify old with new method.

Examine:

Here is the main part of method study. Ensure best workplace to minimize material handling time. In earlier, we have checked Process flow chart & record those things. Now improve- Every areas/motion step by step & check with record. From here you will get the result that means will get the new method.

 Develop:

Now develop most effective & practical method that is very easy to apply.

 Evaluate:

Evaluate from different alternatives to develop a new method. Compare with the outcome & cost as well between those methods.

 

Define:

Define the method to the management, Supervisor & particular operator very clearly. Everyone need to understand about the new method, reason for the changes / benefit of changes.

Install:

Install the new method as a regular practice & make it standard. Train the operator to adapt with the new method. Provide necessary work aid related to the operation.

 Maintain:

After successfully installation of new things, need to monitor very closely. Check hourly production of that process to get in touch update. After the Method Improvement, Time Study should be done again to measure the improvements.

 

Always keep in mind - the IE job is to make things simple and easy for the operator, because if the method is simple and easy then they will adapt very quickly and it will lead to increased productivity and save critical time. There is always a better way of doing a job and the tools of method study are designed to do this. It is also a technique for cost reduction in garment manufacturing.
