Line balancing & it's objective.

In a production floor, work study officer / Industrial Engineer balance the line properly to get maximum output. From imbalanced line, operation with the lowest production hourly will be the line output. So production will be loss due to Balancing Loss.

“Line balancing is divide the workload of all operation among the all operator equally.”

In a production line, budgeted machine, manpower, multiple work content & necessary resources to achieve their target. We need to balance all those things as per requirement & based on skill.

Objective of line balancing:

·         Distribute the task equally

·         Maximum use of man & machine

·         Minimize total idle time of man & machine

·         Remove bottleneck

·         Increased production rate

 

When should work study officer / line supervisor balance the line?

It’s a day to day activities. Not once after feeding new style. Not in a day also.

Balance the line whenever you need.

·      After feeding new style, need rebalance based on current capacity.

·      Every morning first hour due to absenteeism

·      After any break like lunch, tiffin also because there have a possibilities to absent.

 

Note:

Balance continuously even after hitting pick line target to utilize higher capacity. By minimizing downtime, line balancing reduces waiting waste also. Proper line balance may potentially increase in profits and decrease in costs.
