What is Man to Machine Ratio and How to Measure Man to Machine Ratio In Garments Industry?

 Man to Machine Ratio:

The total number of workforce in a factory for the total number of operational machine is defined as man to machine ratio. That means Man to Machine Ratio is the ratio between total workforce and the total number of machines.

Benifits of measuring MMR Ratio:

By measuring MMR ratio, factory management can assess how many employees has recruited per machine. And this ratio gives a clear idea about indirect labor cost of a factory.

How to calculate MMR Ratio:

We need following data to calculate man to machine ratio of a factory.

  • Total how many employees are there including indirect employees
  • Number of machines are there
For Example:

Total manpower of a factory is 1550 and direct operator is 850 among them. If total available machine is 700 then,
Man:Machine = 1550:700
                            =   2.21:1

And for the total direct operator,
Man:Machine = 850:700
                       = 1.21:1

MMR value is more means number of indirect employee is more. MMR value may different based on factory size and capacity.
