What is line Planning? Benifits of line planning.

 Line Planning:

A line plan is a roadmap used for allocation of orders to the line according to delivery lead time. Line loading plan is an important task for every planner.

There have a quote about planning by Dale Carnegie,

An hour of planning can save your 10 hours of doing.
What is Line Planning? Benifit of Line Planning.

From a proper line loading plan, one can get following information,

  • Start & completion date of an order.
  • Number of allocated line for the order
  • Target of each line to be achieve to meet delivery
  • Required days to complete that order
  • Which style comes next and start date.
By those information, floor responsible person can take preparation on that. Like below,

Benifits of line planning:
  • Responsible IE can take preparation like keep ready layout, discussed with production & maintenance team for smooth feeding.
  • Responsible production people can take necessary preparation like operator selecting, critical operation analysis with IE for next upcoming feeding.
  • Maintenance dept. can arrange required machines based on requirement and set special machine earlier if need.
  • Like that all other production related dept. take proper action to execute the plan on floor for smooth production and delivery as well.

After published the proper plan, everyone must need to follow it to execute on floor. Progress need to observed regularly and recorded properly so that the data can be analyzed to take initiative in case of any deviation from the plan. If plan fail, it will directly impact on delivery. So corrective action should take immediately for example change the plan in case of any deviation from the plan to secure delivery.

Notes:

Plan should be very simple and easy to understand with a strong reporting system so that right information reaches at right place in right time. Because always have a plan, and belive in it. Nothing happens by accident.
