How to Find Actual Sewing Time By Using Machine RPM?

Benefits of Calculating Sewing Machine RPM

RPM stands for Revolution Per Minute. It refers to the speed of an electric motor which drives a machine to run. When an operator use standard RPM of a machine then he/she can produce standard pieces also. But produce quantity may vary than the target if he/she use more or less RPM level than the standard. Read in details How to Calculate RPM of a Sewing Machine? We will discuss Benefits of Calculating Sewing Machine RPM in this article.

Find actual sewing time / cycle time: By using actual used RPM of a machine, we can get actual sewing time / cycle time of an operation. To get this data, we need Loop / Seam length, Stitch Per CM and Used RPM of a machine. Now put those value to the equation  and get actual cycle time. The equation of

Sewing / Cycle time = ( Loop Length Χ SPC Χ 60 ) / Used RPM

For example,

If a single needle sewing machine operator used machine RPM = 3000. How much time he has taken to sew a operation of 250 CM seam length where stitch per cm is 4?

So Sewing / Cycle time = ( 250 Î§ Î§ 60 ) / 3000

                                       = 20 Seconds

Cycle time variations and impact on production: Used less RPM of a machine means taking more times to complete that operation. So that production also goes down.

For example, used RPM is 2700 where others all data remain same.

Now Sewing / Cycle time = ( 250 Î§ Î§ 60 ) / 2700

                                           = 22.22 Seconds

On the other hand, use more RPM reduce cycle time and it means produce more quantity.

For example, used RPM is 3600 where others all data remain same.

Now Sewing / Cycle time = ( 250 Î§ Î§ 60 ) / 3600

                                           = 16.67 Seconds

By measuring cycle time through used RPM we can determined how much we need to improve and where to improve to get right production.

From above table, we can say increasing machine RPM always reduce sewing time of an operation and thus we can improve production / productivity by increasing machine RPM. But machine should be set properly by the machine technician to maintain standard process quality.
