How to calculate line efficiency while performing several styles in a day.

Calculate line efficiency while performing several styles.

Style will change whenever the order qty/knitted qty will finish at first machine and gradually will feed one by one machine as per new style layout. It is natural, not in a sudden. Sometimes line output end of the day only old style. Sometimes it may 20% of new style and 80% output of old style. Or 2/3 styles can be for short quantity. On the other hand, SMV of every style will not same due to different workload/work content. So what will I do to calculate efficiency when several styles are running a line in a day & every style have output with different SMV?

Whatever line output only a single style or several styles, efficiency calculation formula is always same.

Efficiency calculating equation = (Day total Output*SMV*100)/(Total working hours*60)

Or, Efficiency =(Total output hour ÷ Total input hour)*100

Or, Efficiency = (Sum of SAH ÷ Input Hour)*100

So for the different SMV, how can we calculate it?

For example: If  line A produce 350 pieces of style X with SMV 16.50 and produce 250 pieces of style Y with 19 SMV at 10 hours using 20 team members then what will be efficiency of that line?

Efficiency =(Total output hour ÷ Total allocated hour)*100

Here output hour for style X = (350*16.50) ÷ 60

                                            =96.25 Hour

And for style Y = (250*19) ÷ 60

                          =79.17 Hour

So, Total output hour = 96.25+79.17

                                    =175.42 Hour

And Input Hour = Manpower*Working Hour

                        = 20*10

                        = 200 Hour

So efficiency of that line = (175.42 ÷ 200)*100

                                        = 88% ( 87.71%)

This way we can calculate efficiency of a particular line and total Factory Efficiency. We can get better understanding about how efficiently a line or total factory are performing by measuring and maintaining efficiency report. Click to know more about Useful Formula of IE Department.
